Though it is difficult to find words, I would like to let you know that I am thinking of you. I hope you will find moments of calm and contentment in this time when thoughts and emotions overwhelm us.
I have many fond memories of our time in the Jan lab. Of our work as aspiring scientists and the many activities to lighten all the lab work - ping pong tournaments, bike tours (below are two photos of our visit to the wave organ), Happy Hour or just hanging out on the decorative freezers in the courtyard at Mission Bay. I also remember the time when I first joined the lab, still in the labyrinthine space on the Parnassus campus, and first got to know you - slightly mysterious because you were working with such sincerity on your projects and were tucked away in this crowded lab space but at the same time such an open and welcoming person who made newcomers like me feel welcome. I appreciate your friendship and the inspiration you have given me.
