We spent many years with our desks back-to-back in the Jan lab. For some reason, my strongest memory of Patrick is of him dancing to "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani in the lab. Even to this day, when I hear that song, I picture Patrick dancing to it and it brings a smile to my face.
Patrick introduced me to the astounding world of paint-by-numbers, specifically paint-by-numbers of horses. I was skeptical, but I remember going with him to see his submission for the UCSF art show and I couldn't even tell it was paint-by-numbers. I hope he has continued this hobby through the years.
I found this picture of Patrick and Friederike at the Jan Lab outing to the Giant's game. What a perfect day for baseball. Patrick's smile is infectious.
Overall, I remember having just a joyful time every time I was with Patrick. I enjoyed his conversation, wit, and ability to find things that I would never be able to find on the internet. :) Sending him much love and hugs. <3

Have a look at this photo and you will recognize the painting from the UCSF art show !
