I always said Patrick would make a great Santa, maybe it was his beard, or his sweet smile. But behind that smile was so much mischief. That mischief is what brought 2 pranksters together and become good friends. Our fun times together are far too many to summarize. From emailing each other from a cubicle away (and hearing him giggle as he was sending me silly emails) to quietly pulling people's legs, we were in it together. He even sent me a silly note to add to me scientific presentation (which I did present to my department). Patrick once took my profile picture and added it to his data image and made a conference poster using that data (thank goodness my face was pixelated). To date I have a structure that Patrick made out of his empty granola boxes as a parting gift before he left Genentech. It serves as my earthquake sensor. Patrick is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met, a perfect package of good nature and gentleness blended with a ton of mischief and pranks that makes him one of a kind. His laughter can be so infectious and can cheer anyone around him, no wonder I thought he would make a great Santa. Many more fond memories of a fun friend

that will stay with me forever.

I just went and sat by this just now when I heard the news. and I channeled Patrick in the presentation i gave right after. Miss him
